The short version is that I create one broad website with a broad URL (domain name) that allows me to write about several subniches.

I wouldn't write about fans AND sowing on the same website, for example (unless it was something like "the best fan for sowing"). Rather, I'd be much more likely to write about all things sowing on the sowing website.
