DDogfighting kingpin, Harry Hargrove, tortured dogs for over 40 years — and he did so with virtual impunity. His story is a bloody history of underground dogfighting, legal loopholes, gambling, government raids, and sickening treatment of innocent animals. It’s not an easy read.

Of the story, U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Boyle said, “This is as sick as it gets. It really is.”

Hargrove’s story begins in rural North Carolina, USA.

The Making of a Dogfighting Kingpin

Contrary to popular belief, dogfighters come in all shapes and sizes.

The community is likened to drug abuse or addiction. “There is no cultural barrier,” explained one Federal expert. “Men, women, businessmen, veterinarians, even law enforcers have been known to throw in with dog-fighting — a grand champion dog in Texas was owned by a state trooper.”
