Great question. There are several possible reasons you might want to do this: You can backlink to your personal website, which can help your website and articles rank. You can also drive traffic to your own personal site, where you can earn money through display ads and affiliate marketing.

3) If no one is searching for these low competition kws, and we end up on page 1 what difference does it make if no one is actually looking for this information?

Most of the time, the keyword tools undereport actual search volume. Most of the keywords I go for don't even show up in Keyword tools (because they are too new or don't show much search volume).

Many of these keywords bring me thousands or several hundred visitors to my websites per month.

Even if a keyword is very low it can help us build topical authority in Google's eyes. That can help our website and other articles (on the same topics) rank better and faster.
