Anything is possible in Florida — including brazen theft of a fast-food restaurant with a deadly reptile.

On October 11, 2015, Joshua Douglas James hurled a baby alligator into a drive-thru window of a Wendy’s in Loxahatchee, Florida. It’s a bizarre story of a misguided prank, theft, and dangerous assault with a savage animal.

Committing crimes with animals is nothing new. Stories abound of men and women using venomous snakes, rats, and pigs to murder dozens of people and dispose of their dead bodies.

However, even in the “Sunshine State,” no one expected a flying alligator.

The Baby Alligator

According to his own testimony, James, 22, found a 3.5-foot baby American alligator on the side of the road.
