Agreed! I use to think being a published author was some sort of mystical plane where magical book fairies made all my publishing dreams come true. Once I figured out how "easy" it was to self-publish, I realized that most of my initial assumptions were false.

And, you are so right: the easy access to publication means a lot of less-than-stellar books that crowd the marketplace.
